Musescore and Noteflight (i.e the wrong time for the kids to get sick!)
This has been one heck of a week! First, the county comes out and films my capoeira program to showcase at a school board meeting. Not only that, Rehearsals begin this week for the Spring Semester and I have to prep everything for my trip to Peoria, Ill to do a session at the Illinois Music Educators Annual Conference. Oh Yea, I have projects to do as well for my Masters! No one said that this would be easy!
So, let's talk about Musescore. I know this will not be popular, but I am not a big fan. With the exception of some of the inputting features, I had a difficult time with this. I have been using Finale for over 20 years and the system has been improved and made more intuitive over the years. Musescore did not seem very user-friendly to me. the interface had a hard time adjusting to my HP laptop. Also, there were some quirks to the program. To have to keep changing views and sizes of the screen was maddening. Not only that but the tutorials were not of the current version! A lot of the screen formatting had changed and functions were not in the locations indicated on the screen. If you are going to do score work, get Finale or Sibelius! I would only recommend Musescorefor personal or student use if Finale and Sibelius were not possible to acquire.
To add to the pile, my kid got sick while I was working on the project for Musescore and I had to take him to the urgent care clinic. I sent my files while in the waiting room. Yes, I can hold my daughter with one arm and email attached files with the other!
Noteflight was much more intuitive for me. I even bought the upgraded monthly version to see how it worked. I would recommend this for very simple assignments. My only two issues are that it constantly hounds you to upgrade all the pop-up menus get annoying and bothersome. Beyond that, it was simple to use and I would recommend it for a VERY basic composition class. HEre is my Arrangement of a Bicycle Built for Two!

Well, that's the upside-down point of view for this week! Enjoy The next module!
